Do you think Russia is trying to negotiate -and in a better position- towards Geneva? It looks like the international community forgot about Crimea…

- Yes, Russia has managed to “secure” Crimea by putting other explosives on the table – Eastern Ukraine, gas prices, issue of Federalization and legitimacy of the Government in Kiev. This is also a typical Russian approach – trying to plant the pole as far as possible, so that the West now negotiates on the imminent issues, and not the “bygones”. So, yes, Crimea, at this stage is a “bygone”. Ukraine now faces imminent threat of losing its statehood, independence and a resource-rich region, it risks facing the split of the nation in two and destabilization of the Government.

It looks like the international community forgot about Crimea?

- Ukraine now faces imminent threat of losing its statehood, independence and a resource-rich region, it risks facing the split of the nation in two and destabilization of the Government. Therefore, obviously no one remembers Crimea. However, once, when the situation stabilizes, Ukraine will most likely start legal and political battle on the international arena to delegitimize Russia’s annexation. But this is a long-term battle, which will not be won today and tomorrow. But it will be won for sure, since Russia is clearly on the wrong side of international law in this conflict.

What can be expected from the Geneva meeting?

- I want to use this opportunity to call on EU and US to be as strong against Russia, to be as non-compromising as Churchill, Reagan and Kennedy were at various times. Finding excuses for not doing enough and sacrificing Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova will not solve the crisis. It will postpone the disaster. Next in line will be EU and NATO countries, where Russia might not use military instruments as in the cases of Georgia and Ukraine, but will use other means to destabilize, divide and shake most vulnerable EU and NATO countries. Russia does not plan to stop, until Mr. Putin reinstates Soviet Union, not only geographically, but in terms of influence and power. He has to be stopped now.
