In 2018, the total amount of registered crime increased by 54% as compared to 2017. The registered crime figure (58,412) in the accounting period is a kind of “record” for the Georgian Dream government. Prior to 2018, the highest figure (43,028) for registered crime was in 2013. Of note is that a change in the methodology of calculation was blamed for the high crime figure in 2013.
How alarming is such an unprecedented growth in registered crime? Do statistical data give us ground to think that the criminogenic situation has deteriorated sharply in the country?
