Seminar on “Europeanization Processes in the Black Sea Region”

On December 18-19, the seminar “Europeanization Processes in the Black Sea Region” was held at Romanian - American Foundation in Bucharest, Romania. The seminar was organized by Georgia’s Reforms Associates (GRASS) with the financial support of The Black Sea Trust, A Project of the German Marshall Fund of the United States within the initiative for confidence building in the South Caucasus.

The seminar was opened by an opening speech by Dr. Sergi Kapanadze, Director of Georgia’s Reforms Associates (GRASS) and welcomed participants from Black Sea countries: Romania, Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia. The presentations were held by the experts in the field of European Integration: Mr. Cristian Ghinea, State Councilor on EU affairs in the Prime Minister Chancellery of Romania, Dr. Zeynep Alemdar, Director of the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of OKAN University Istanbul; Mr. Anton Barbashin from Intersection Project Russia/Europe/World and Ms. Khrystyna Brodych, Adviser to the Member of Parliament at Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The aim of the seminar was to share experience about each country’s relations with the European Union and its approaches towards Europeanization processes: Russia’s approach towards the EU and its main political standpoints; Turkey’s long-standing EU membership and future perspectives; Georgia’s and Ukraine’s Europeanization processes, related challenges and opportunities; Romania’s past road towards the EU and membership benefits.
