A ten-day study visit to the School of Public Policy at CEU by Georgian and Abkhaz scholars was held in September.

Organized by the Executive Education program at SPP, the study visit brought together young academics and professionals from Sukhumi and Tbilisi associated with the local higher education institutions as well as civil society leaders, for a course entitled ‘State of the Art in European Studies and Other Multidisciplinary Fields’.

Four days of workshops and discussions presented by CEU faculty and guest lecturers such as Ambassador Prof. Dr. István Gyarmati, president of the Center for Democracy Public Foundation, and Goran Buldioski and Vlad Galushko of the Open Society Think Tank Fund, covered a range of topics in the areas of European Integration, Political Science, International Relations and Conflict Studies.

Using innovative learning technologies, case studies, simulation models and interactive modes of exchange, the program included topics such as the history and future of EU integration, state relations within the EU, and the development of relations with EU neighbors. The Budapest segment of the program was followed with a visit to Vienna to investigate how academic concepts and frameworks can apply to and impact international policy making. While in Vienna, the participants visited the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, the International Center for Migration Policy Development(ICMPD) and the Vienna Diplomatic Academy.
