On September 21 FactCheck Georgia became Facebook’s official partner within the Third-Party Fact-Checking Program (3PFC). Having launched in late 2016, 3PFC is in line with Facebook’s three-part framework to improve the quality and authenticity of stories in the News Feed. The program is implemented by Facebook in partnership with International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) verified fact-checking organizations.
The focus of the 3PFC is identifying and addressing viral misinformation, particularly clear hoaxes that have no basis in fact. Within the program, FactCheck Georgia prioritizes provably false claims, especially those that are timely or trending and important to the average person. Within the 3PFC, FactCheck Georgia team members review and rate the accuracy of public Facebook and Instagram posts, including ads, articles, photos, videos and text-only posts.
