Support Regional Civil Society Organizations' Capacity to Promote, Advocate and Implement Georgia's International Human Rights Commitments (UN Treaty Bodies, Universal Periodic Review on Human Rights)

Project’s main objective was to assist regional Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) through the capacity building in understanding, promoting, advocating and implementing international human rights commitments of Georgia related to the protection of the following vulnerable groups:

  • Ethnic, national and religious minorities;
  • Sexual minorities, women, persons with disabilities;
  • Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS);

GRASS team identified and targeted around 60 CSOs based in the regions of Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Akhalkalaki and Batumi. Project focused on Georgia’s obligations stemming from the UN Universal Periodic Review Mechanism as well as recommendations given by relevant UN and CoE treaty bodies and institutions.

Project’s key activities included:

  • Preparation of the Manual for CSOs on the International Human Rights Obligations of Georgia and relevant procedures of the human rights instruments;
  • Capacity Building of the regional CSOs about Georgia’s human rights obligations, their potential role and skills based training;
  • Analysis of State driven strategies, concepts and actions plan vis-a-vis Georgia’s human rights obligations ;
  • Development of CSO’s network in targeted régions of Georgia.
